The Eichsfeld in Thuringia is traditionally the origin of high-quality knitwear. In this context also our company with the brand LEONARD MAI had been founded in 1920. The production facility is located in in Zella - an idyllic village at the Unstrut river. An eventful history ended for first, when in 2004 the company had to announce insolvency.
Under the name Strickmanufaktur Zella GmbH our company started again in 2005 with fresh capital and with a new team. Putting the focus on modern design and on a high - quality of materials and manufacturing we positioned ourselves deliberately against the trend to move textile productions in countries with very low levels of wages.
More than 25 new jobs could be created since that time. The factory has been modernized and extended. In the meantime, we produce knitwear for many designers and labels with whom already several successful collections had been brought to the international fashion market.

LEONARD MAI stands for classical knitted menswear which is refreshed every season with new designs developed in the fashion city Berlin.
Mia mai was created in 2009. It addresses women to whom quality of materials and processing are of high importance. An individual design underlines our visions of true luxury for fair prices.
In cooperation with research institutes in Thuringia and partner companies we work on the development of the innovative yarns for future textiles with uniquely new properties.
